The tension between chaos and cohesion is central in my work.

I paint expressionist portraits with oil color and a palette knife. My work is a direct response to impulse with the intention of being free from control. The process is rapid and physical. I build up thick layers of paint which are neither controlled or corrected. Signs of the decisions, mistakes, and flowstate are what builds the work. I seek a state rather than perfection because that is what makes the works raw and honest. 

My practice explores what people carry within themselves. This can be inner conflict, frustration, or something broken. I capture these conditions before they become concealed and composed. The surface appears fragmented and tactile up close. At a distance, it reshapes into a unity. This tension between chaos and cohesion is central to my work. It glues together our different elements shaping a body and identity.

The works invite a relationship that unfolds over time, encouraging an ongoing exploration of one’s relationship to oneself.
